About me...

I am a news and politics junkie. I work at home and do online marketing for a living. Most of the time, I will have the news on TV, typically MSNBC, and I will tweet in-between projects or when I need to take a break. I thought about all the downtime I was having while watching news, tweeting, etc. and thought, "Why am I not monetizing this time I am spending?" So, that's why this site exists.

HUH? Apologetic stick-up man sends shop owner $50 and an apology note

SHIRLEY, N.Y. – A Long Island convenience store owner who showed mercy to a would-be robber said he's received an apology note and $50 in the mail. The unsigned note said it was from the man who tried to rob Mohammad Sohail. It said the would-be robber has a new job, a new child, and is staying out of trouble.

Sohail is saving the $50 for charity.

The bat-wielding man tearfully told Sohail in May that he was trying to feed his family. The rifle-toting businessman gave him $40 and bread, and made him promise never to rob again.

The man disappeared when Sohail went to get milk for the family.

I found this rather odd story at Yahoo! News.

Whoops! Florida Governor Charlie Crist tells parents to call a phone sex line

In all the hoopla surrounding the health care debate in Washington there has been a lot of misinformation.  But Gov. Crist has taken it to a new level...accidentally.

According to Yahoo! News...

Gov. Charlie Crist mistakenly directed parents of uninsured children to call a toll-free sex line.

People calling the governor's office heard an on-hold recording of Crist promoting the toll-free Florida KidCare line. Except two numbers were transposed.

Anyone calling the number Crist gave out was told to call another number. The recording on that second phone number begins, "Hey there sexy guys" and says the caller can have a more graphic conversation with a woman for $2.99 a minute.

Pastor hawking 'ex-gay' myth in "Bruno" movie wants to be Birmingham, Alabama mayor

I flew to Las Vegas a few weeks ago and I was hunting on iTunes for TV shows to watch during the flight.  I downloaded a few episodes of "Cougar Town" and "Modern Family," two great shows on ABC, which I had not seen yet, but that wasn't enough to pass the entire six hours of flying time.  I decided to go look for a movie.

I had heard how awful "Bruno" was from several friends and relatives, but I really enjoyed "Borat," which was also made by the same movie-maker, Sacha Baron Cohen, so I decided, against my better judgment, to rent "Bruno" on iTunes.

It was terrible.  There were about four good laughs, and the rest of the movie was just plain dumb and disgusting.  One of the high points of the movie was when Bruno spoke with the pastor, Jody Trautwein (pictured at the right), who was trying to convert him from being gay to straight.  The tail end of the clip is after the jump, along with information about that pastor's campaign for mayor of Birmingham, Alabama.

Ratcheting up the scare tactics in health care fight

The audio cuts out part of the way through the ad.  Here is the script:

Not all is what it seems with Congressional health plans. Their government takeover of your health care is a wolf in sheep’s clothing, That will bite you hard. Driving health care costs higher, not lower as true reform would. Entrenching a bureaucrat between you and the doctor they choose for you. Raising new job destroying taxes. And even robbing Medicare to pay for their government takeover scheme. Tell Senator Dorgan to oppose the government health care takeover no matter how they disguise it.

This reminds me of the scare tactics from the Bush re-election campaign in 2004. Hat-tip to Politico.com for uploading the ad to their site.

NJ set to consider same-sex marriage next week

On the heels of yesterday's gay marriage defeat in New York state, proponents of marriage equality have another battle on the horizon, this time in New Jersey.

There was doubt as to whether the proposal would be considered in the lameduck session before Gov. John Corzine left office, but it now appears that a vote may happen.  Read more here.

Bills/Jets tonight? I'm glad I'm not in Las Vegas

If I were in Las Vegas, I would probably make a bet on tonight's game. And that is precisely why I am glad I'm not in Vegas.

If I were there, and if I had a bet on this game, I would probably watch it.  There are much better ways I could punish myself.
